WSU WUE (Distinguished Cougar Award) and Cougar Award

2020: Distinguished Cougar Award/Western Undergraduate Exchange — $11,000 per year

With the Western Undergraduate Exchange or WUE (here we call it the Distinguished Cougar Award), an out-of-state student starting at WSU in 2020 may receive an $11,000 award, renewable for an additional three years. Qualified students receive the award automatically, and are notified upon their offer of admission to WSU. No additional action or forms are required for consideration.

Eligibility

Awarded to admitted freshman who start at WSU in the spring or fall of 2020 with a minimum 3.4 unweighted high school grade point average (GPA).

To receive the award, you must also:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Be a resident outside the state of Washington and charged non-resident tuition
  • Enroll at the Pullman campus as a freshman for spring or fall

This scholarship cannot be combined with the National Merit award.

2020: Cougar Award — $7,000 per year

An out-of-state student starting at WSU in spring or fall 2020 may receive a $7,000 award, renewable for an additional three years. Qualified students receive the award automatically, and are notified upon their offer of admission to WSU. No additional action or forms are required for consideration.

Eligibility

Awarded to admitted freshman who start at WSU in the spring or fall of 2020 with a 3.0–3.39 unweighted high school grade point average (GPA).

To receive the award, you must also:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Be a resident outside the state of Washington and charged non-resident tuition
  • Enroll at the Pullman campus as a freshman for spring or fall

This scholarship cannot be combined with the National Merit award.

Fall 2019: Cougar Award/Western Undergraduate Exchange — $10,000 per year

With the Western Undergraduate Exchange or WUE, an out-of-state student starting at WSU in the fall of 2019 may receive a $10,000 award, renewable for an additional three years. Qualified students receive the award automatically, and are notified upon their offer of admission to WSU. No additional action or forms are required for consideration.

Eligibility

Awarded to admitted freshmen who will start at WSU in the fall of 2019 with a minimum 3.0 unweighted high school grade point average (GPA).

To receive the award, you must also:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Be a resident outside the state of Washington and charged non-resident tuition
  • Enroll at the Pullman campus as a freshman for fall

This scholarship cannot be combined with the National Merit award.

Renewal Criteria

Renewable for an additional three years or a maximum of 8 total semesters if you meet the following criteria:

  • Remain in good academic standing according to WSU policies;
  • Maintain 12 credits each semester on the Pullman campus;
  • Complete 24 graded semester credits by the end of each spring semester;
  • Maintain non-resident status and maintain undergraduate, non-professional degree status.
  • Must continue enrollment on the Pullman or Spokane campus
