WSU Regents Scholars Program
Scholarship awards
There are two scholarship levels in the Regents Scholars Program:
- Regents Scholar: $4,000 per academic year for four years. All qualified nominees who complete the admission and scholarship process will receive this award.
- Distinguished Regents Scholar: Full tuition (up to 18 credits per semester) and mandatory fees for four years. The top 10 nominees will receive this award.
Students must enroll full-time at the WSU Pullman campus in fall semester 2012 to receive their awards.
Regents Scholar awards cannot be combined with the University Achievement Award (UAA) or National Merit award.
Renewal requirements
The awards are subject to yearly renewal requirements: continuous enrollment (fall and spring semester each academic year), a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average per academic year, and completion of at least 24 graded credits each year.
What does it take to get the Distinguished award?
The University considers the following elements in awarding Distinguished Regents Scholarships:
- Academic achievement: Exceptional academic achievement is a factor. Most students who win these scholarships will have earned at least a 3.8 high school GPA (unweighted) after six terms. Scores on the SAT or ACT are also factored into the award decision.
- Community, civic, and co-curricular involvement: The WSU scholarship application includes an essay component, in which students can present their unique experiences and accomplishments.
- Recommendation letter: A letter of recommendation is part of the nomination form; the recommendation can be made by the nominator or by any high school teacher or counselor who knows the student well. This additional information about a student's achievements and potential can make a big difference in the awarding process.
