WSU Regents Scholars Program
Making your nomination
WSU will send an email to a representative of each qualified Washington high school and participating Native American tribe. The email will contain a link to a special page for your school or tribe where you may nominate up to two students. If your school or tribe does not receive the invitation email, please contact WSU Scholarship Services at scholarships@wsu.edu or 509-335-1059.
The representative receiving the email may use the link themselves or forward the email to another appropriate official to make your nominations.
You must submit the nomination form for each of your students by November 13, 2011. Students must submit a scholarship application and a complete admissions application packet by December 11, 2011. The Regents Scholars Program selection committee will only review students with complete materials.
Select Your Nominees
Check our eligibility page to see if your school and students qualify.
Use the Regents Scholars calculator to verify that your students meet the GPA and test score requirement. Note that students must have taken either the ACT or SAT and received an official score before they can be nominated. The GPA must be the student’s official cumulative GPA (on a 4 point scale) from the end of the most recently completed term.
Who to nominate
How you select your nominees is up to you. Here are a few strategies that schools have used:
- Advertise the opportunity and ask interested students to "apply" for a nomination by submitting a brief essay or an academic resume.
- Go strictly by academic record, nominating the two highest-performing seniors.
- Ask teachers and counselors to recommend which students to nominate.
Being interested in Washington State University is not in any way a requirement; we urge you to nominate your best students, regardless of their level of interest in WSU. Many current Regents Scholars didn't consider WSU until their school nominated them for the scholarship.
We encourage you to make your nominations based solely on your students' qualifications. Our Regents Scholars often rank in the top two percent of their class, possess a passion for learning, and benefit from a wide range of experience that propels them aboue their peers. They demonstrate a purposeful, long-tem commitment to volunteer activities and causes both inside and outside of school. Some have also achieved their success while also facing extraordinary family situations, special personal circumstances, or holding part-time jobs.
