Future Cougars of Color

About the scholarships

Every student who attends the Future Cougars of Color (FCOC) event will receive a $1,000 scholarship just for being there. Higher level scholarships are also offered in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 per year. All scholarships awarded are renewable for up to three additional years if a student meets the required academic criteria (2.5 cumulative gpa at WSU).

In order to qualify for scholarships through the Future Cougars of Color program, students must attend the entire event and have completed the WSU Scholarship application by January 31st..

How the scholarships are awarded

Selection for upper level FCOC scholarships is based on academic and personal achievements highlighted on the WSU Scholarship application and an interview process. Students selected to interview for these scholarships will be interviewed in-person by WSU faculty and staff on Saturday morning.

The FCOC Scholarship Committee will meet and determine the award levels given to students who interviewed following the event. Every student who participates in the interview process will receive a four-year scholarship ranging from $2,000 to $5,000.

Scholarship award letters will be mailed to every student the week following the event. These letters come from WSU's Scholarship Services and they can be contacted at 509-335-1059 or scholarships@wsu.edu.

Preparing for the scholarship process

Students selected to do in-person interviews on Saturday (day 2 of the event) will be notified Friday, March 22 during the event. A congratulatory letter providing more details will be provided then. No further preparation is required for these interviews. Please dress casually that day and do not bring a portfolio or other additional materials wil you to the interview. You are all that is needed!

If you can't attend

If you can't attend the entire event, you won't be eligible for the Future Cougars of Color scholarships — but that's not the end of the story.

Filling out the WSU scholarship application means you'll automatically be considered for hundreds of other scholarships from WSU.

There are also many other opportunities to visit campus throughout the year. See our student visits site for more information.
