What is a Top Scholar?
Top Scholars at WSU represent the wholistic student body, coming from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and geographies. Top Scholars demonstrate academic achievement, potential, and embrace the spirit of what it means to be a Coug! Top Scholars at WSU represent the top 10% of our incoming class.
How do I become a Top Scholar?
To be considered for our WSU incoming Top Scholars selection you must submit a completed application (application, application fee or fee waiver, and all application materials such as transcripts) as well as a scholarship application by January 31.
Both first-year and transfer students are eligible for selection!
Selection is based on a variety of factors including:
- Complete admissions application on or before January 31
- Completed scholarship application on or before January 31
- Minimum 3.6 cumulative GPA (first-year students) or minimum 3.4 GPA (transfer students)
Other factors that may be considered:
- Financial need
- Academic interest
- Participation in state and federal education programs (i.e. Trio, CollegeBound)
What if I’m selected to be a Top Scholar?
Top Scholars will be notified of their status as a Top Scholar by mid-February 2023.
As a Top Scholar at WSU you may:
- Attend special top-scholar recognition during our admitted student only events Experience WSU
- Participate in top-scholar meet and greets with other Top Scholars, faculty and staff during Week of Welcome at WSU
- Receive excusive invitations to participate in unique academic opportunities, research and programs
- Be eligible for additional scholarships through your academic department
- Participate in mentoring programs
- And more – programming varies by academic department
