Geospatial Analysis
College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences
- Offered as:
- Minor
Overview
Geospatial analysis uses geographic information systems (GIS) software to analyze complex data — such as weather, topography, geologic features, vegetation, and various types of statistical information — in relation to a particular geographic location.
Geospatial analysis techniques are used in modeling outcomes and making decisions regarding crop and soil management, wildlife habitat, natural resource management, city planning, disaster planning, military operations, business logistics, and more.
The University's minor in geospatial analysis can be added to nearly any major. If you're interested in agricultural sciences, environmental science, natural resources, biology, or zoology, a minor in geospatial analysis could be a perfect fit.
- Requirements and core courses
-
At WSU, geospatial analysis is taught with emphasis on its applications in ecology, agriculture, and environmental science.
The minor also provides a solid base from which students can apply GIS technology to just about any field.
Requirements and courses
The minor in geospatial analysis requires at least 16 semester credits. Exceptional students may take graduate-level courses with instructor permission. Courses used for the minor in geospatial analysis may not be used for the minor in soil sciences.
Core courses
- Intro to GIS
- GIS and Spatial Analysis
- Remote Sensing
Applications of geospatial analysis techniques (6 credits from the list below)
- Landscape Ecology
- Soil Geography
- Advanced Agricultural Precision Systems
- Environmental Spatial Statistics
- Landscape Modeling
- Approved professional internship or undergraduate research
Note: See the WSU Catalog for degree requirements and work with your academic advisor to plan and schedule your courses. All students must meet requirements as outlined in the catalog in order to graduate.
- Scholarships and financial aid
-
A variety of state, federal, and university-sponsored programs are available to help students with educational costs.
WSU awards millions of dollars in financial aid and scholarships to thousands of students every year based on financial need, academic merit, or a combination of the two.
To be eligible for scholarships and financial aid from WSU
All students should do these three things:
- Complete the WSU scholarship application to be eligible for scholarships from the University.
- Fill out the FAFSA to be considered for aid based on financial need.
- See the scholarships and finances section of the WSU admissions website for scholarship information, deadlines, and general instructions.
