Choose any major you like
If you plan to pursue a career in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, or a similar professional field, you need to do three things above all else to maximize your chances:
- Major in something you enjoy learning about
- Get excellent grades
- Meet the prerequisites for your professional area
Med schools, vet schools, and law schools don't give preference to any particular major when it comes to admission. With high academic achievement and the necessary prerequisite courses, virtually any major can deliver the preparation you need.
We've highlighted the programs on this page because they offer tracks specifically tailored for various pre-professional areas.
But WSU doesn't lock you into a single way to achieve your goals. With our exceptional academics and nearly 100 majors to choose from, your future is wide open.
Skilled advisors have your back
From the moment you arrive on campus, advisors are ready to help with things like choosing a major, getting prerequisite courses, arranging internships, and building a great application for the professional school of your choice.
Health professions
The Health Professions Student Center helps anyone interested in medical, veterinary, pharmacy, and other health-related professions.
In 2013, students in the University's pre-health advising program had a 100% admission rate for dental school applications, 71% for medical schools, and 88% for pharmacy schools.
Architecture
The architectural studies major will prepare you to apply to professional programs, including WSU's own master of architecture program.
Law
The College of Liberal Arts offers pre-law advising.
Outstanding preparation
A health-science leader
When you graduate from WSU, you're fully prepared to be a health professional.
WSU gives you extensive opportunities to experience the front lines of the health-care industry — you can “try on” your chosen profession through internships, service learning, and volunteer work.
Year after year, graduates of the University's programs in veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and audiology have nearly 100 percent pass rates for licensure or certification, far exceeding the national average.
Strong pre-law preparation
Pre-law preparation should help develop your reasoning skills, communication skills, and abilities in writing and interpreting the written word.
With that in mind, the University's majors in philosophy, political science, economics, and history offer emphasis tracks specifically tailored toward the skills and knowledge you need to be a strong candidate for law school.
The philosophy major boasts a nearly 100% admission rate for its pre-law students.
