Congratulations on your student’s acceptance to WSU! While it may feel like you’ve crossed the finish line, there are several next steps that still need your student’s attention.
Sign up for a visit to WSU.
WSU offers daily campus tours, group visits, and one-on-one visits with admissions and financial aid staff, which can be scheduled based on your availability. We also host special, hands-on events only for admitted students called Experience WSU. Experience WSU gives students and their families an opportunity to look at our academic programs and student resources, check out some of our residence halls, and get familiar with our campus. And, students that attend the entire program will receive a one-time visitation award of $1,000 if they decide to enroll at WSU. Experience WSU is tailored to meet the needs of our incoming students and is a great way for undecided students to see what makes WSU so great! These events fill up fast, so tell your student to register today!
Upcoming Experience WSU events:
• Saturday, February 24
• Saturday, March 24 (Out-of-State Experience; limited to out-of-state students)
• Saturday, March 31
• Saturday, April 14
To learn more about Experience WSU, and to have your student register, please visit our website.
Note: students can only attend one visitation event (Experience WSU or Future Cougars of Distinction) and can only receive one visitation award.
On Friday–Saturday, March 9–10, WSU will also host our Future Cougars Embracing Diversity program. Future Cougars Embracing Diversity is an opportunity for underrepresented and/or first-generation college students to see firsthand all that WSU has to offer. This program is exclusively for students who are Washington residents and have been admitted as a freshman or transfer student to WSU Pullman. At the event, your student can explore campus, learn about academic areas of interest, get questions answered, and soak up the friendly Cougar spirit!
Transportation via chartered buses, all meals during the two-day event, and overnight accommodations will be provided. WSU admission counselors will ride the buses with the students to and from Pullman and will serve as chaperones both during the day and overnight at hotels.
Attending this program in its entirety will also make your student eligible for the one-time $1,000 visitation award mentioned above. To learn more about Future Cougars Embracing Diversity, and to have your student register, please visit our website.
Note: students can only attend one visitation event (Experience WSU or FCED) and can only receive one visitation award.
Confirm your admission to WSU and pay the $200 non-refundable tuition deposit.*
Students who confirm their admission will reserve a spot at WSU and be able to apply for campus housing, and sign up for orientation and class registration. Campus housing and orientation are assigned on a first-come basis—the earlier your student confirms, the more likely they’ll get their top choices!
*Contact your admission counselor to inquire about deferral options for the $200 tuition deposit.
Apply for on-campus housing.
The housing application requires a $400 advanced housing payment and a $150 security deposit. Freshman (and students under 20 years of age with less than one year of post high school college credit) are required to live on campus for their first year.
Register for Alive! Orientation.
All new students must attend an orientation session to meet with an academic advisor and register for classes. The Alive! orientation fee is $240 for students. The fee is $195 for parents/guests with on-campus overnight accommodations or $140 for parents/guests staying off-campus.
Start Showing Your Coug Pride!
Your student can join the Future Cougs on Schools App to connect with other incoming students. And, you can follow the WSU Parents of Future Cougs Facebook page to connect with other parents/guardians and receive important announcements. Send us an Instagram pic of your student’s #futurecoug spirit so we can share it, and feel free to update your profile photo or phone background with our free downloads.
And, don’t forget to wear your crimson and gray!
Other next steps your student should be aware of are:
• Taking the online math placement exam and the writing placement exam.
• Providing proof of immunization.
• Signing in to myWSU.
• Planning ahead for moving in to the university, participating in the Week of Welcome (August 16–20), and starting classes on Monday, August 20!
