Congratulations to your students who have been offered admission to WSU. Once a student is admitted, encourage them to complete the next steps by paying the $200 confirmation deposit in myWSU so they can then apply for Housing, register for Alive! Summer Orientation or Transfer Alive!, and take the Math Placement Exam.
Apply for Housing:
Students who have paid their $200 confirmation deposit for fall 2017 can apply for housing through the Housing website. The housing application requires a $150 housing deposit which cannot be deferred or waived. The application also requests a $400 advance housing payment which will be credited toward their overall housing and dining costs in the fall. Students who are applying for financial aid may have the $400 advance housing payment deferred until they receive aid by checking a box on the housing application.
Housing assignments are based upon the date students complete their housing application. In other words, the earlier they complete their housing application, the better chance they have for placement in one of their top choices. Housing assignments come out in June.
Register for Alive! Orientation:
All WSU Students are required to attend an orientation session before enrolling in classes. Alive! is a two and half day program offered during the summer months designed to prepare students for the start of classes in the fall. At Alive! students will receive academic advising, register for fall classes and get better acquainted with campus services and facilities. Students who register early are more likely to get in to the session they want. When possible, encourage your students to register for one of the twelve sessions offered throughout the summer. Students who need to defer the $230 matriculation fee may request a deferral by printing out the Alive! Registration form and submitting the request to New Student Programs.
Take the Math Placement Exam:
WSU’s Math Placement Exam is available online for incoming students. Students with transferable math credits from college coursework, Running Start, AP, or IB courses will automatically be placed into the next level math based on what they have already completed. These students are not required to take the Math Placement Exam unless they wish to take a math course that is higher than the one they qualify for through their transfer credit. More information can be found on the Math Placement Exam website.
If your student would like to wait to take the Math Placement Exam until they have completed their final math course this spring, keep in mind students must take the exam 2 weeks before coming to their Alive! Orientation session as their score will be used to place them in a math course. The Math Placement Exam is offered completely online. If a student is not satisfied with their initial score, the exam may be retaken in-person either during their Alive! session or at another time on campus.
