Washington State University’s Student Financial Services (SFS) has started to deliver financial aid estimates to new students via Coug Compass at cougcompass.wsu.edu. This tool serves a variety of purposes, but its primary function is to provide prospective students and parents a snapshot of their initial financial aid estimate for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year.
Coug Compass delivers useful financial education-related resources and links as well as a student’s real-time initial financial aid estimate—right online! This estimate pulls information from the student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and generates an accurate overview of what aid will be available to that student for the coming year. Keep in mind, the information displayed can change if a student’s FAFSA information changes, so don’t be surprised if estimates change when a student’s family finalizes their tax figures through fafsa.gov or during the file review process.
In order to get the most accurate financial aid estimate and to receive the most aid available, students need to keep in close contact with SFS to ensure all documents and forms requested by the office are completed and submitted by May 15. Students need to consistently check their financial aid “To Do List” on zzusis to determine if SFS is asking for further documentation. Please also remind students to check their email often in the coming months to ensure all is in order in terms of their FAFSA and financial aid account.
Students will receive an email when their financial aid estimate is available to view on Coug Compass, where they will need to log in with their zzusis Network ID. Students need a student Network ID login to access their initial financial aid estimate via Coug Compass. After a student applies for admission, he or she receives an email outlining how to create their zzusis network ID.
