LEARN BY DOING...IN THE LAB, THE LIBRARY, OR THE FIELD
At WSU you get priceless research and laboratory experience.
WSU science graduates report that their laboratory skills more than match those of other new employees with degrees from other top schools. There are plenty of opportunities to get experience working in faculty research labs. And it's not just lab work; you could do hands-on field work in anthropology, ecology, zoology, and more.
Motivated students in social sciences, humanities, and liberal arts have opportunities to add to scholarship in their field, with guidance from faculty scholars. Research centers like the Foley Institute for Public Policy, the library's Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections department and more give you access to resources not available just anywhere.

PROGRAMS THAT GIVE YOU AN EDGE
At WSU, you can take advantage of programs that give you unique hands-on experience, an accelerated track to an advanced degree, or that simply don’t exist elsewhere in the Northwest.
The University’s offerings in the biological sciences span three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Animal science
The University’s animal science curriculum is one of the strongest in the nation, featuring hands-on animal contact not available elsewhere and a pre-veterinary medicine study option.
Neuroscience
The neuroscience program offers unparalleled personal contact with professors; every student has the opportunity to pursue his or her own research project with faculty mentorship and present it at an annual senior research symposium. There are also optional tracks for pre-medicine and pre-veterinary medicine.
Viticulture and enology
The University is home to the state’s only four-year program in the science of wine making and wine-grape growing. WSU viticulture and enology faculty are known worldwide for their expertise.
The fast track to success
The WSU STARS (Students Targeted toward Advanced Research Studies) program gives you a chance to accelerate your learning process so you can earn a Ph.D. in as little as seven years after leaving high school. Find out more.
